My wife Sue and I were recently shopping at Jungle Jim’s Eastgate after having driven across town to enjoy some delicious ramen from Osaka Ramen House, and she spotted the display with this beer as we passed through the beer department. So naturally we grabbed a couple of bottles, being ardent supporters of exercising our right to vote. (Not to mention big fans of IPAs in their many manifestations.)

I think it’s a very cool concept – a collaboration with the Ohio Secretary of State and other Ohio breweries to encourage voter registration. Ohio residents have until October 5th to register to vote. Not sure you’re registered? You can check at the voteohio.gov link above.

Now, Rhinegeist’s offering is a juicy (or New England) IPA, a category which I must admit is sadly lacking here on the blog, and has been very under-represented in my beer drinking. So it’s nice to get a start on rectifying that today. On to the review!

Impressions:

Hazy golden hue kissed by a hint of pale amber, capped with a generous head of white foam. The head eventually pretty much settles out, but it sure is pretty while it lasts. It does leave behind some nice rings of lace on the glass, too.

Fruit-laden aroma with notes of mixed citrus, stone and tropical fruits. In a word, juicy.

Fine carbonation up front tickles for a moment then delivers a mouthful of fruit flavor. There’s a lot of different fruity notes all mixed together, including peach, mango, orange and papaya to name a few. Opens softly, then explodes midway through, followed by a pleasant bitterness with some citrus peel accent. The overall fruitiness lingers in a lengthy finish, leaving a tanginess on the palate.

Gotta say this is really flavorful and drinkable. And I’m proud one of my favorite local breweries stepped up to host this collaborative effort!
