Low Tide Tiki Cocktail

Low Tide Tiki Cocktail Recipe

By Bill Lau | A Potable Pastime

Now this was a new one for me – a Tiki drink made with Midori melon liqueur. I’ve enjoyed many flavors in Tiki drinks over the years, but never (to my memory at least) melon. Not only that, but it also calls for both spiced simple syrup (the subject of my previous post) as well as allspice dram (another recent offering on the blog here). Looking for a recipe to use spiced simple syrup or allspice dram? Well, look no further! (Looking for the recipes to make either one? Links are provided below in the ingredients list. How ridiculously easy is that?)

The spices from the syrup and allspice dram mix beautifully with the rum, melon, and citrus flavors in this drink, for an exotically different Tiki experience. The Midori also provides a lovely and playful lime-green hue. (The dry curacao I used in mine tilted the color in a slightly more yellow-green direction; if you use a clear triple sec I’d expect to see a shade more green in the finished drink. That curacao is excellent stuff, but priced accordingly. I won’t tell anyone if you decide to go with a less expensive option.)

I was really happy to have found and tried this drink, which will no doubt become a part of my regular Tiki drink rotation. I hope you enjoy it just as much!

Cheers!

Ingredients
1 & 1/2 oz white/silver rum
3/4 oz Midori melon liqueur
1/4 oz allspice dram
1/2 oz orange curacao liqueur (or triple sec)
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/4 oz spiced simple syrup

Method
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for about 20-30 seconds, until well-chilled. Strain into rocks glass or Tiki mug filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a chunk of honeydew melon or lime wedge and serve.
