When not drinking beer or wine or mixing up a delightful cocktail, I do occasionally enjoy a nice soft drink. Our local eccentric purveyor of world foods and owner of a working monorail, Jungle Jim’s International Market, stocks quite the selection of unusual sodas, ranging from craft selections to international offerings to a variety of retro sodas.
Previous retro reviews included Brownie Caramel Cream Root Beer and Shirley Temple Flavored Soft Drink. We turn now to another root beer (hey, I really like root beer, especially during the summer), this time featuring butterscotch. That’s a new one for me, if you wondered.
Much paler appearance than a normal root beer; a rather butterscotchy-amber hue, in fact. Sweet aroma of caramel and butterscotch disk candies. Very sweet up front, flavor is dominated by butterscotch disk candies with some caramel aftertaste. Lacks any herbal bite found in your more typical root beers. Leaves a bit of a syrupy stickiness on the tongue. A bit too sweet for my palate, but I bet kids and lovers of those butterscotch disk hard candies would go for this in a big way.
